Kanika Goyal

Born in Chandigarh and graduated from NIFT, Delhi, Kanika Goyal has had an innate passion for fashion. She went for further studies to a prestigious design institute Parsons The New School For Design in New York. Kanika explored the world of fashion and bespoke philosophies while her internship with renowned labels Marchesa, Prada and Bihu Mohapatra. It was here that the designer streamlined her precious influences into a singular, more compact design philosophy. Goyal launched the Kanika Goyal Label in 2014. Since then, several Bollywood A-listers, including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and Anushka Sharma, have made appearances in her creations. She calls her work “provocative minimalism”, which, according to her, is using maximum patterns for minimalistic appeal. The basic idea is to blend calm and chaos together. Using both heavy and light fabrics, and contrasting prints, to give depth and perspective.

The label's forte lays in extreme creativity, experimental silhouettes, dramatic elements and fine detailing. Fascinated by the principle of mystery, the designer consistently channels her contrasting ideas into garments that narrate a similar story. Her label’s identity, while imbibing on the ideals of luxury, weaves the evolution of a multicultural designer with an ever-maturing design view. Thriving in this contrast, her label is evidently, a dialogue on her creative perception. Famous for her sporty, clean silhouettes, she is responsible for reinterpreting Punjab's traditional Phulkari embroidery and using it in her very western outfits in her recent collections.
